Ana Margarida Feijão, a Portuguese designer based in New York, presents LIBERDADE É NOME DE MULHER as a continuation of her conceptual exploration of memory, body, and female experience. The collection draws on Portuguese history, particularly women’s lives in the post-1974 democratic period, blending personal and collective narratives.
Silhouettes reference traditional Portuguese attire, reinterpreted with contemporary approaches that balance structure and fluidity. The palette is predominantly black, emphasizing depth, memory, and resilience. Fabrics are handcrafted and treated to hold form while maintaining lightness; hand-draped silks echo voluminous traditional skirts, contrasted with the firmness of leather, highlighting the tension between protection and exposure.
The collection emphasizes sculptural construction, layering, and detail, creating garments that function as “bodies of memory,” expressing intergenerational narratives, resistance, and the evolving experience of women in society.
