The Metaverse-Can it Uplift Humanity?

What exactly is the Metaverse? It’s a digital space accessed by integrating augmented reality and virtual reality technologies that draw us into an alternate universe to interact in immersive ways. The Metaverse will likely exist side by side to our real world where people can explore and recreate themselves in any way they choose without the limitations of our physical plane. It is an imaginative, creative space which is the new iteration of the internet as we know it.

Enter Krista Kim, founder of the Techism movement and creator of the Mars House.

Kim introduced the phenomenon of an architectural home existing in the Metaverse back in March of 2021. She sold her creation for over a half a million dollars and it was the first time a digital house was introduced as a venue that can exist in the metaverse. Kim’s vision has always centered around building an ecosystem that will uplift, calm, and encourage positivity between people. She argues that art has been proven to help with anxiety, and mental health problems. Her mission is to build a better future through digital art, meditative spaces, and music that touches the soul.

Since the sale and minting of the Mars House as an NFT, many additional players have entered the market in buying and developing real estate in the digital world. The two most popular Metaverses today are Decentraland and The Sandbox where digital land is being bought up with cryptocurrency for eye-popping figures. Both metaverses have a limited supply of parcels with Decentraland capping its total at 97,701 and Sandbox at 166,000.

Will this trend catch on? And will this alternate universe truly be the future? The main issue I can see is that there is still no interoperability between different Metaverses, so if you purchase NFTs in one, you can’t transport them into another, limiting their use. Furthermore, in the last few months, the number of daily visits to both The Sandbox and Decentraland has dropped significantly. So, which Metaverse will emerge as the most popular? Will there be one that stands out above the rest, or will there be hundreds of them like our cities that are populated with different communities?

There are roughly 7.7 billion people on the planet and the idea that there will be only one metaverse is hard to fathom. Many creators are developing these digital worlds hoping to create an environment that can be beneficial to humanity and enhance our lives. In my opinion, one such visionary is Krista Kim.

Krista Kim’s mission of creating a metaverse that “has the power to deliver accessible wellness programs to millions through powerful immersive experiences at the intersection of art, science and technology” is coming to fruition through “0”.

Kim has been developing “0” with her co-founder Peter Martin to make a positive impact by uplifting human potential with their metaverse. Their aim is to bring virtual experiences of meditation, exercise, lectures, education, and other forms of immersive experiential opportunities to the space to add value to our lives, not detract from them. “0” is set to launch as early as Q1 of 2023 alongside a range of strategic, IP and world-class production partners. If anyone is able to build a positive virtual world, my bet is on Kim!

Our world is continually evolving at an increasing rate. To imagine what the future will look like in the next century is almost unimaginable. Medical breakthroughs indicate that humans will be able to live for centuries, AI technology is speeding up the learning process, AR and VR are allowing doctors to practice surgeries in the virtual world, while digital renditions of structures are being created so that we can evaluate security features, traffic flow, and other complexities before we start building.

I am curious about this new Metaverse movement; there is much to learn. I will keep investigating and sharing my insights with you. Enjoy the day!
