Gianfranco Ferré’s Spring/Summer 1997 collection for Dior merged the designer’s refined, sober, and strict designs with associations of Dior’s classic, flirtatious, and romantic style. Many garments paid homage to the New Look suit silhouette.
Key garments included tailored jackets and vests, A line skirts, tailored pants, sheath dresses and skirts, and A line mini dresses. The collection transitioned from classic tailoring to swimsuits with matching cover ups, concluding with ankle length evening dresses. The extensive color palette spanned white, black, beige, cream, ivory, navy, yellow, mustard, lime, light green, lilac, red, light blue, and orange.
Accessories included brogues, strappy sandals, heeled sandals, and a variety of bags such as side, tote, and beach bags. The finale featured ballerinas in romantic tutus. The beauty look was sleekly styled hair, smoky eyes, and pink lipstick.
