Vintage in Pills DONNA KARAN Fall 2001 New York – Fashion Channel
Donna Karan, known for her consistently feminine and wearable approach to design, presented a collection that expanded her vocabulary into more unconventional territory while maintaining a strong sense of practicality.
This season, the designer explored a richly textured, layered aesthetic often described as “savage luxe,” working within a largely monochromatic palette. The collection featured distressed chiffon skirts, oversized knitwear, patchwork shearling coats, crochet overlays, and deliberately worn-in slip dresses, creating a raw yet considered sense of construction.
Eveningwear continued this narrative of deconstruction, with gilded dresses that evoked antique, weathered surfaces and carried a sense of time-worn elegance. Alongside this more experimental direction, Karan also referenced equestrian influences, introducing khaki cavalry jackets, wrapped riding trousers, and aged leather outerwear.
